The rights and duties of employment in the UAE can differ significantly from the rights and duties of the country of origin. The following are some recommendations and guidelines to help adapt to a new work environment, as well as a new culture.

 Employment contracts

Contracts work in bilingual format. Read carefully through your work contract. If neither of the two forms is in your native language, make sure you have translated the document correctly. All labour contracts should include the following information:

Name of employer, place of work, type of work
Nature of contract (limited or unlimited)
Fixed start and end dates for contracts (for fixed-term or limited contracts)
The agreed wage rate and the salary release schedule
Immigration and visas

All companies looking to hire a foreign worker must first register with the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs - Abu Dhabi (rooms) as well as the Ministry of Labour which will issue the immigration card. Once granted, the company has the ability to apply for a work visa or permit for a foreign national wishing to work for the company, allowing its holder to enter the UAE for an entry visa for two months from the date of issue. After the employee enters the country on the basis of a work visa, the medical clearance report that is arranged by the sponsoring company must be completed; the company must also complete the residence permit stamping procedures for the employee. After successful clearance, the employee will issue a visa for two years after which the employer will apply for a business card that allows the employee to start work.

The cost of hiring the new staff member should be borne by the employer.

Family care

Employees are allowed to sponsor their families provided they earn at least AED 3,000 per month; however, if the employer does not provide housing, the employee must earn at least 4,000 dirhams per month.

Advantages

The employer shall provide the following benefits to the employee:

Basic salary
Return to your original country once you have completed your employment contract
Indemnity.

Standard papers:

Full paid sick leave shall be paid for the first fifteen and thirty days within the next 30 days that may be recovered after the expiration of the probationary period of three months. Employers are entitled to request a medical certificate for sick leave.

Trade unions

No form of trade union or trade union is permitted in the United Arab Emirates.

Health insurance

Currently, there are only two employers in the UAE providing health insurance coverage, Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Although coverage is required by law in Dubai, DHA has had difficulty organizing the system. Abu Dhabi is implementing a strictly subsidized medical insurance scheme whereby the Health Authority pays a fine of AED 300 per employee for institutions that do not comply with mandatory coverage
